Accessorizing Tips and Tricks

HOW TO ACCESSORIZE: BASIC RULES AND TIPS
The best way to finish up your look is definitely with some accessories, but not everyone knows how to make all those little things work correctly to make a desired well-put together look. It is not that hard, if you know the basic rules. Bellow you will find them, read it carefully and be sure to look amazing with all accessories you wear!

Don’t overdo
Everything works if that is balanced perfectly and hits the golden middle. The same rules work with accessorizing too. The worst way to accessorize is to completely overdo it by putting way too many pieces on you. If you like accessorizing with the trendy layers of jewelry, be sure you stick with one main layering area. Always be sure to use no more than three different accessories. For instance, a ring, a bracelet, and earrings. That’s it.

Wear statement pieces for special occasions
It might be fun to wear one huge necklace or a pair of outstanding earring for work, but that is not really appropriate. Better leave those statement pieces for more special occasions or for going out with your friends. It will certainly let your look be unique and draw attention to the parts of your body you wish. But always remember the first rule and don’t overdo it. Wear only that one statement piece and add another much “quieter” piece to it. For instance – big earrings and one medium size ring. You will look perfect for sure.

Think about outfit while accessorizing
This shouldn’t even be on a list, but many women tend to forget about it. If you dress is already full of sequence, better reconsider if you want to add more accessories to it. On the other hand, if your outfit is plain and neutral, some bright and fun accessories can live it up. Just try to balance all the sparkle and shimmer and you will always look like a million bucks.

Invest in fine accessories
Some great accessories which you love a lot can work for you for many years. To make that happen you should definitely invest in it more, to get the best quality and the chance to wear it for a surprisingly long time. Just look for great stores so you know you will get quality items.

Don’t over match
Finally, when trying to accessorize your outfit perfectly, forget about an ancient old rule to only use accessories that is the exact color as the clothing. That really doesn’t work at these modern days. Contrasting or darker or whiter toning is definitely more modern. For instance, if you are wearing a bright red dress, pull burgundy shoes and add bright blue purse. It will look very expensive and well put together since it creates an interesting look. Don’t over match with colors and you will be ok.

How To Make Custom Shirts Without Cutting Machine

In my previous post I showed you how to make custom twin onesies using a Silhouette cutting machine.  I know that most people do not own one of these machines so here is a tutorial on how to make a custom shirt without a fancy machine.

Instead of cutting out letters with a machine I purchased letter stickers.  These were in the dollar spot at target and came with five sheets.  I would advise finding stickers with multiple sheets so you can be sure you have enough letters for all your words.  It's the worst when you are in the middle of a craft project and realize you don't have enough supplies!

The stickers are about one inche tall which were perfect for the word "wombmates".
To center the words I started with the middle letter and worked outwards
If your word has an odd number of letters then put the center letter in the middle, Be sure to take into consideration narrow letters like "I and J" and space accordingly.
Make sure the stickers are on securely.
Now take a newspaper and block out around the words.  Tape around the words in a square.  I used clear packaging tape for this,

Spray the words with fabric spray paint.  I used Kryon spray paint which they said is safe on fabrics and non toxic.

You could reuse your stickers (like I did for my second onesie).   Once your stickers are no longer sticky I would recommend tossing them, as the paint may seep through.  Be sure to heat set your shirt with an iron.  I didn't heat set my shirts and they did fade after I washed them.

Custom Personalized Shrink Plastic Name Tag

I love personalized things.  It's because growing up, when my relatives would buy me souvenirs, I would always get the one that said  "# 1 Girl" or sometimes  "Renee"(which apparently was close enough), because Rena is not a common name.

I made these personalized name tags for the holidays for all the kids in the family.  The name tags can be  attached to a lunch box, back pack or a jacket or anything that needs some identification.

To make these tags you needs shrink plastic, 1/8 inch hole punch, a jump ring, a key chain loop, sharpie (optional) and a die cut machine (or if you are really good with a craft knife you can use that too).

Cut out your the name on shrink plastic using a die cut machine. You do want to use a thicker font and
make sure all the letters are overlapped with good thickness, or the tag may break at the thin areas.

Punch a hole at one end of the shrink plastic.  I used a 1/8 inch hole punch which when shrunk makes
a very small hold (smaller than 1/16 inch) just large enough for the jump ring.  If you have a bigger jump ring
you should use a larger hole punch.
To draw on polka dots I used a pattern as a template and just followed the dots with a sharpie.
My shrink plastic was semi transparent so I could
see the pattern through the plastic.

Follow the instruction on the shrink plastic to shrink.  After plastic is cooled attach key chain.
